THE MAKING

Twelve Steps, Two Hands,
No Shortcuts.

Every EastPi bracelet passes through twelve handcraft steps — from selecting century-old wood to the final knot. Nothing is rushed, nothing is automated. This is what the process looks like.

THE PROCESS

From a Block of Wood
to a Quiet Companion

Wood Selection

01 · WOOD SELECTION

We start with aged red sandalwood — a century in the making, denser than water. Each block is knocked, smelled and weighed by hand before it earns a place on the bench.

Hand Carving

02 · HAND CARVING

Our carver shapes every bead at the bench with tools older than he is — no moulds, no machines. A single bead can take a full morning; a slight unevenness is the signature of the hand.

Polishing & Detailing

03 · POLISHING

Sanded through seven grades of abrasive, then burnished with cloth until the wood’s natural oils rise to the surface. No lacquer, no wax — only patience.

Cord Braiding

04 · CORD BRAIDING

Museum-grade cords in muted eastern tones are braided by hand — each knot tightened to the same tension, a rhythm learned over years, never timed by a machine.

Beading & Knotting

05 · BEADING

The finished bead meets its cord — turquoise, jade or amber, each chosen to sit quietly beside the wood. The final knot is tied, checked, and tied again.

Finishing & Sending Off

06 · FINISHING

A final inspection under daylight, a handwritten card explaining the meaning of the piece, and it leaves us — bound for a wrist somewhere in the world.

FROM THE BENCH

Moments at the Workbench

Fragments of the workshop — tools, shavings, cords and quiet concentration.

“Great skill seems clumsy. Great craft leaves room for the hand to be seen.”
